Privacy policy
Salevation helps you track things you want to buy and tells you when they go on sale. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Salevation is run by the team behind Salevation (“we”, “us”), and we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and, if you give it, your name. We also record how you signed up (with your email and a password, or with Google), which sign-in methods your account uses, the date you joined, whether you’ve confirmed your email address, and when you last used Salevation. Your password is stored only as a one-way scrambled “hash”, never in readable form. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address and name from Google.
- What you track: the products you search for and track, target prices, folders, the store links you add, and the alerts we send you.
- Your settings: your notification choices.
- Notification subscriptions: if you turn on phone or desktop notifications, your browser or phone gives us a delivery address for that device.
- Lists you share: the email addresses of people you share a list with. We email them an invitation from Salevation on your behalf, and we only use their address for that list.
- Feedback: if you send us feedback, we keep your message and the type of page you sent it from, and, if you’re signed in, your name and email address so we know who it’s from.
- Search counts: how many searches your account does each day, so we can apply fair-use limits that keep Salevation running.
- Security information: when you sign in we record the type of browser or device, and we use your IP address briefly to stop abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts).
- Cookies: essential cookies that keep you signed in and, if you search without an account, count how many searches you’ve used (it holds scrambled codes, not what you searched for). We also use Google Analytics cookies to understand how Salevation is used (see below).
- Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use Salevation. It uses cookies and records the type of screen you view (for example “search” or “item”, never what you searched for, the items you track or any private link), the website that referred you, your device and browser, and your approximate location (worked out from your IP address). Google processes this information, including in the United States. You can opt out with Google’s Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
How we use it
- To run Salevation: searching stores, checking prices (once a day), and sending the alerts you ask for.
- To keep your account secure, including confirming your email and resetting your password.
- To email you about your account and the price alerts you’ve turned on. We don’t send marketing email.
- To support you and manage accounts: for example, resending a confirmation email, signing an account out of its devices, or suspending accounts that misuse Salevation.
- To understand how Salevation is used (for example, how many people sign up, how they sign up, and how many items they track) so we can run it as a business and improve it.
When you share a list
If you share a list, the people you share it with can see the list’s name, the items on it with their current prices, and your name and email address. They can’t see your other items, alerts or settings, and you can stop sharing at any time. If someone shares a list with you, you can leave it whenever you like.
Who at Salevation can see your account
Our authorised administrators can see account details in a secure admin dashboard: your name, email address, how you signed up and which sign-in methods you use, when you joined and were last active, whether your email is confirmed, and how many items, folders and notification devices you have. The dashboard shows these as counts: it doesn’t show which products you track. Administrators use this information only for the purposes in this policy, and every action they take on an account (such as a suspension) is logged.
We don’t sell your personal information, and Salevation has no ads.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Salevation. They only receive what they need:
- Search providers (such as Serper or SerpApi) receive the product names you search for, not who you are.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Our email provider (Resend) receives your email address and the emails we send you.
- Push notification services run by Apple, Google, Mozilla or Microsoft deliver notifications to your devices. The content is encrypted so they can’t read it.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the Salevation database.
- Google Analytics receives the visit statistics described above.
Some of these providers store information outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose providers with appropriate security, but overseas laws may differ from Australia’s. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
When you tap a link to a store, you leave Salevation and the store’s own privacy policy applies.
Affiliate links. Some store links are affiliate links (including through the Amazon Associates program): if you buy something, the store may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. When you tap one, we record which store you went to and when, and the store or affiliate network (such as Amazon or Commission Factory) may use cookies to know the visit came from Salevation. We don’t share your name or email address with them. As an Amazon Associate, Salevation earns from qualifying purchases. We hope you’re enjoying Salevation! To keep the service low cost for our users, we use affiliate programs to fund our business - thank you for your support!
How long we keep it, and security
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account (in Settings), we delete your account and everything in it straight away. Copies in our backups are deleted within 7 days. We protect information with encrypted connections, hashed passwords and restricted access.
